Knock Knock

Me: Knock knock!
Mom: Who's there?
Me: Doughnut.
Mom: Doughnut who?
Me: Do you know the golden rule?
Mom: What rule?
Me: Doughnut do unto others what you don"t want others to do unto you.

My Frustration

I really love food, but I only know how to eat it, not make it. This, I guess, is one of my many frustrations in life. I've tried cooking, my mom taught me some tips and tricks, but I never really got to use it. I wanted to try and make new dishes but I just don't have time or I guess I'm just too lazy. My family in mother's side are great cooks, my uncle (the one who challenged me in eating lechon, see previous article.) is a very good cook. he is very innovative in making dishes. My auntie too, she likes to experiment, she mixes this and that and vio-la, a new dish is made. This summer I'm planning to try some recipes myself, and let's see what happens.

Desserts

It's alright for me to miss the appetizer and main course but never dessert. This is the most awaited part of my eating time. Whatever kind of dessert; hot or cold, I'm sure that I'll be drooling over it. Just recently, we went to a party, it was Chinese New Year, so our relatives invited us over for dinner. The first food that caught my attention was the dessert, of course. At first I didn't know the name, it was an odd dessert for me, for me it looks like a chiffon cake topped with gelatin and fruits. My ignorant side came to life so I went over and tasted it, boy, was it delicious! I think I came over the table thrice just to eat the dessert, my mom noticed me and asked if I liked it, I said "Of course, this is my 3rd slice already, hahaha!" My grandmother then told me that the dessert is called Crema de fruta. Here's how it looks like.

My Lechon story

I never fancied Lechon, or any meat. I just like beef, fish and veggies. Whenever I eat meat, I just chew them like a bubblegum then spit it out. My very first encounter with Lechon was at Talisay, Cebu (I didn't know that time that they make the best Lechon). My nose crinkled at the sight of it and I'm pretty sure I won't like it but I'm wrong! My uncle challenged me, since I don't want to look like a weakling, I accepted the challenge and ate it. At first, I took a small bite, it was so soft and juicy, I begin to like it. I kept on getting more and exploring other parts, my favorite part was the ribs. They said I should try the skin/panit of the Lechon, it was so crispy, and not fatty. Since that experience I stated to eat Lechon and up until now, Lechon is never absent in any family's special occassions.
